Left 4 Dead 2 'Cold Stream' beta hits Steam

The beta for 'Cold Stream,' part of an upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 DLC pack, is released via Steam.

Last month, Valve announced that a new downloadable content pack was in the works that would port the three remaining campaigns from Left 4 Dead into the sequel, in addition to a new community-made campaign called 'Cold Stream.'

An announcement on the official Left 4 Dead blog today reveals that a beta for 'Cold Stream' has been released for the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2, via Steam. Those who like to hunt bugs along with their zombies are encouraged to dive in and give feedback to the developers via the Cold Stream forum.

"If you see a bug report it," states the announcement. "There are sure to be nav-mesh bugs, navigational issues, hit box problems, missing zombie ladders, art problems, etc. Remember it's a beta."

The Cold Stream beta is only available for Mac and PC players, though Cold Stream will be included in the DLC pack for Xbox 360, once it's released.

Why? It's a nice campaign, although a bit rough around the edges.

not nice to shove a 500+ meg update down to people without a choice, especially for people on service with bandwidth caps

You know you can prevent your games from checking for updates right?

They will still fetch the updates if you attempt to run the game.

Low framerate made it almost unplayable for me.

A 500GB beta should be optional, just like TF2 and CS:S had optional betas.

L4D2 has had free DLC, so I'm sure this will be free also. Regardless of when, you'd still have to get it. Besides when it is released this will just make it a smaller update.

I would fucking hope a 500GB beta would be optional lol

Hopefully, they will allow L4D2 to run like L4D, (like restricting the special infected to just the original 4), and allow all L4D owners to upgrade to L4D2 for free.
Then they can kill off L4D forever, and have just the one game.

THEN maybe the L4D2 cry babies can shut the fuck up!

It's really bad, the terrain is annoying as hell, there are some tricky jumps, it's not even obvious where you're supposed to go half the time, and it's massively unbalanced in favour of the infected, there are so many places where you can charge/smoke people off without them being able to do anything about it.

Just like in real life, maybe its more similiar to a simulation than a game!

hehe and so the bitching starts like with every other dlc released.

Have you not played it? It's really bad. Visually it's quite nice, but there are bits where you can't see where to go and the solution is to drop off part of a ledge, without any indicators there is something below you, where you can get immediately chargered off without any recourse.

It's like, oh god I can barely move because these rocks are annoying as hell to navigate past, I'll just jump several times to climb onto a pebble that is shin height so I can traverse it.
