So I finished it this weekend and I have to say it was really great.
I'm divided on the checkpoint system ever since I saw it in VOID. Forcing me to go back and replay from the start of the chapter made me get really good at those sections and it felt awesome, but then again I remember being stuck on the second boss of CORE for 2 weeks and how agonizing it was to have to play for 20 mins just to get to the part I was bad at.
The avoid dots were an interesting touch, especially later in the game. Removing the colors from the dots fit in with the theme very well, and added to the difficulty when it came to the dots that bounced back. They did well in making a sequel to a game rooted in simplicity.
I do have to agree with the controls. You have to think faster than it appears, which usually means memorizing some of the really complex parts or at least building strong instincts that they end up screwing with as they crank up the difficulty.
