Cyberpunk 2077 release date delayed once more to November
CD Projekt RED has further delayed Cyberpunk 2077 to November, announcing that previews will be out the door soon.
In a shocking move on Thursday (June 18), CD Projekt RED announced it had pushed back Cyberpunk 2077 once more to November 2020.
Previously, the game was planned for a September 17 release, and now it's been delayed an additional two months. CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski and head of studio Adam Badowski explained their thoughts behind the delay in a tweet from the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account.
"Those of you who are familiar with the way we make games know that we won’t ship something which is not ready. “Ready when it’s done” is not just a phrase we say because it sounds right, it’s something we live by even when we know we’ll take the heat for it. At the same time, we are fully aware that making such a decision costs us your trust and trading trust for additional time is one of the hardest decisions a game developer can make," the pair wrote. "And despite that we think it’s the right decision for the game, we’d still like to apologize for making you wait longer. Our intention is to make Cyberpunk 2077 something that will stay with you for years to come. In the end, we hope you understand why we did what we did.

The notice went on to confirm that the game is complete, but the team still believes there is work to do on making sure it all runs smoothly.
"At the time we are writing these words, Cyberpunk 2077 is finished both content and gameplay-wise. The quests, the cutscenes, the skills and items; all the adventures Night City has to offer—it’s all there. But with such an abundance of content and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything, balance game mechanics, and fix a lot of bugs. A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that."
Now, Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on November 19. Hopefully that will end up being the last of the delays. We'll keep our fingers crossed for when we'll be able to finally get our hands on the game to bring you our thoughts.

My point is that a 2 month delay is a final polishing pass before release. It's not enough time to fix fundamental issues in the design or content of the game.
They're one of the richest publishers in Europe. They have one development studio. The company is publicly traded, but I believe the founders still have a controlling stake in the company. They have the money to delay further if necessary, and since they only release a product once every 5 years, they should be strongly incentivized not to pump out a turd.
That doesn't mean they can't make dumb choices and pump out a shitty game, but a 2 month delay doesn't seem like a strong indicator that anything is wrong.

I don't even know what that's supposed to mean/allude to.
Like, the game has been in development for at least six years, games see small or even moderate delays frequently, and also there's uh... a global pandemic that has interrupted productivity a bit even in places not as dumb as the USA.
"Oh noes, we fucked it up... Better redo the entire 6 years of work in the next 5 months!"
Honestly, I hope this delay is just to prevent crunch, it probably isn't, but fuck crunch. -

Previews and reviews have a massive impact on game sales, so it's absolutely something that every single developer and publisher stresses about no matter the game
There's also this whole fucking charade of having to disproportionally polish segments of the game that will be used in previews, which is bad for developer morale, and bad for the final product, which is its own point of stress. This is why you'll see a lot of games with their "E3 level" which is multiple degrees better polished than the rest of the game, when pretty much everyone working on the game would have preferred to spend that effort evenly polishing the whole game rather than making one level really good at the cost of all others.
Game development is hard and a mess and a lot of this stuff isn't even bad management or anything; it's just how the whole industry works and you kind of just have to play the game if you're working on games at this level of budget -

The first trailer for this game debuted in 2014 I think. And probably at that point they were already deep in development. They’ve been working on this for a long time.
I wonder how you set a graphical goal for a game that’s so far out when you begin. Do they just keep making it look better or do you plan for stuff that doesn’t exist?

This just means they found some kind of bug that the bean counters decided it was worth fixing now instead of in a patch. Which means it was too likely reviewers would hit it and tank their review scores because of it. Or, it means marketing wasn't ready in time given the pandemic.
So, ya, really this is probabl a marketing delay ultimately. -
From Wario64: Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable on PS5 and XSX on launch date, mentioned in CDPR investor call https://reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/hbokpc/cdpr_investor_call_confirms_cyberpunk_bc/
It will look better than current gen versions from day 1 and will receive a more robust update in the future for next-gen, free of charge for PS4/XBO version

Sony has done a poor job with messaging but we should assume that current-gen PS4 games will be cross-compatible with PS5 and effectively run at a "high" setting to the PS4 Pro's "medium", basically what MS is doing with Smart Delivery.
There will be a few exceptions, things like BluePoint's ground-up remaster of Bloodborne for PC and PS5 that won't run on PS4. For third party games with scalability baked in, I'm going to assume forwards-compatibility along with enhanced visuals for late-gen games.-

No, I mean Bloodborne. Enough reputable sources have been independently saying that Bluepoint is working on a Bloodborne remaster for PS5 and PC that I'm inclined to believe it. It wasn't shown during the Sony event since it will also be on PC while Demon's Souls will be exclusive to PS5. The same sources also said that Demon's Souls would be shown during the Sony event.
I assume the remaster won't work on PS4 since it fixes its inherent performance issues, adds 60fps, 4k, etc.

A PS4/XB1 version will install on a PS5/XSX, they will look better on PS5/XSX, and CDPR will later ship additional post-release updates that will make the game look even better.
Its all the same game and disc though, which is the kind of cross-compatibility we should expect for the first couple years.
