Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD adds Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog joins the cast of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD as a playable character.

Ready to get your monkey ball on? When Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD debuts, you'll get your chance to do so with another animal other than a primate: a hedgehog!

Sonic the Hedgehog is joining the Super Monkey Ball cast for thhe first time ever when the HD remake of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz rolls into the station. Sonic will be a hidden, unlock able character that you can play as to earn unique effects like super speed. Sonic will also turn all bananas in stages to golden rings to collect, and there will also be plenty of classic SFX paired with all your ring-collecting fun.

Sega has indicated, however, that there are tons more secrets to unearth in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD – you've just got to find them. Skilled players can unlock a series of costumes for each monkey in the game's cast, which is great news for anyone playing the game close to Halloween. You can check out some of those fun looks (like a pirate costume) in the special trailer below. 

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is a remake of the original Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, which originally debuted on the Wii in 2006. That particular release was heavily reliant on motion controls, but those options have been eschewed in favor of traditional options, which makes this Monkey Ball look like a lot more fun. Don't miss out on all the monkey-rolling action when Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD hits PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch this October 29.
