It’s been a little over a month since the prequel to Jim Henson’s iconic 80s fantasy feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance made its launch on Netflix’s streaming platform. And much to the delight of fans and critics, it seems to be a solid hit. Fortunately for fans of the series, the Dark Crystal revival isn’t stopping with a Netflix series, and soon gamers everywhere will be able to continue their adventure with The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics. Our one and only Greg “Burkleton” Burke had a chance to catch up with the BonusXP dev team to get a look at some pre-alpha gameplay as well as an in-depth walkthrough of how combat will play out.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, definitely takes several queues from the classic Final Fantasy Tactics series. Players will be able to select from several jobs each with their own unique skills and abilities that they can assign to characters to round out their party. Combat plays out on a grid-based map where players will have to strategically place their characters on the field and do their best to use the environment around them to their advantage. This could mean placing archers in the high grounds, knocking over pillars onto enemies, or avoiding things like quicksand. Each combat arena is set up so that players will be able to see all the action on one screen and the map can be rotated to get a different a better glimpse at all the details. You can check out all the details in the video below.

While fans can catch The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance now on Netflix, fans are still going to have to wait a little longer to get their hands on Tactics. Right now the game is scheduled for a Winter 2019 launch on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC/MAC. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date as we get more details. For now, be sure to check out our Shacknews and GamerHubTV Youtube channels for all the latest gameplay previews and interviews in the world of video games and beyond.
