Hey Shacknews! First Post! is back for the second straight day (a little late). This article used to be how we kicked off the day on the Shacknews Chatty comment section before we switched to rolling 18 hour expiration on threads, but now it is just a nice place to kick off the news day.
Hong Kong Protests

This protest video was posted to Reddit this week, but I figured it was worth sharing on Twitter and here. The young man in the video shouts that what the Chinese government is doing is a massacre and calls out authorities for using the same language as Hitler. Protestors are also using wearable projectors to confuse facial recognition cameras in Hong Kong.

#BlizzardBoycott
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney on censorship of Fortnite esports players and content creators: "That will never happen on my watch as the founder, CEO, and controlling shareholder." This comes as Mei from Overwatch is being turned into a symbol of Hong Kong liberation.
Trade War
President Trump is set to meet with the Vice Premier of China tomorrow for another round of trade talks. The ongoing trade talks have been a huge cause of volatility in the global equities markets, and investors should expect more volatility if a deal falls through again. I wonder what the Shackers posting to the Trump Dump think the odds of a China deal are? (Turn on political filters to see that massive daily thread)
PG&E rolling blackouts hit California
Can't sleep because my power just went out and now I can't run my sleep apnea machine... Thanks for the insomnia PG&E! @PGE4Me #PGEshutdown #pgeshutoff

Our good friend Sexy Bill the Cameraman reported outages in San Jose last night, which is especially hard when you are dependent on a CPAP machine for restful sleep. He went on to say that "The houses literally ACROSS THE STREET have power. Is this it? Is this how the Purge starts?" Head over to our PG&E Chatty thread to check in with us. Stay strong, NorCal Shackers!
Twitch streamed Germany synagogue terror attack
At least two people were killed in an anti-semtic attack on a synagogue during Yom Kippur. German media reports are that the gunman had a camera mounted to his helmet. He went on to post the video to Twitch. The video streamed for nearly 30 minutes before being taken down. A representative from Twitch said the company, "worked with urgency to remove this content and will permanently suspend any accounts found to be posting or reposting content of this abhorrent act.”

I AM!!!
So far I've finished Alan Wake and The Last of Us. I'm currently in the middle of Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within 2. I'm not 100% sure I'll get all the way through A:I just because of shit like last night where I was hiding and sneaking around for what seemed like forever to only end up eaten; losing all that progress in the meantime. Bums me out. So I may end up playing more Evil Within than A:I. We'll see. I also happen to be in the middle of SOMA for like that last year, I need to get back into that so that's probably up next. Oh shit I just remembered I had started Deadspace as well. I'll squeeze some more of that in there somewhere. Maybe I'll play like an hour each tonight or something.
It's a nice snowy stay home day. -

Here's six game trailers that I love:
[MIRROR'S EDGE]
Not sure exactly why, but the initial gameplay trailer stuck with me from the first time I saw it (I remember it playing in a cycle with Dead Space and maybe Burnout Paradise):
https://youtu.be/2N1TJP1cxmo
DEUS EX: HUMΔN REVOLUTION
Not even the extended CGI trailer has all of the clips, but whatever. I think there's one part I wish it had, but I can't remember what it was off the top of my head.
"It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here."
https://youtu.be/hoRwOux7Ofw
▋KERBAL Space Program
'Build, Fly, Dream' was never an official trailer, but it was so good that for KSP2's announcement trailer the devs used it as a guide.
https://youtu.be/RkDOOsGg-9I
TETRIS EFFECT
Who would have thought that a trailer for Tetris would be something so amazing?
https://youtu.be/Mr8fVT_Ds4Q
HOMEWORLD DESERTS OF KHARAK
'Primary Anomaly' hangs with me, largely due to the melancholic bordering on bittersweet text and tone of the trailer.
https://youtu.be/K7ior9JoUE0
P0RTAL
Portal Orientation Video no. 1. Obviously using an early version, but the non-gameplay art contrasted with the "in-game" view along with the general tone made it an easy sell.
https://youtu.be/TluRVBhmf8w
Okay, I could go on and on, but I have a long afternoon to get to. :/
Breath of the Wild and Saints Row already got appreciation or I'd have those in here too.

it's not a threat at all … I think when people see someone change jobs they want to dig into it and try to find something that is newsworthy. that is a slippery slope.
but maybe you need to ask yourself why my comments make you react like it's a threat? sorry man, that's on you. zero intent from here.

I, uh, I think it's pretty safe to say that Asif and/or Shacknews is pro-freedom, anti-authoritarianism, anti-racism, anti-religious discrimination, and very anti-genocide.
I don't mean to speak for him but I'd like to think I know Asif decently at this point, and also there's his tweets and also this Evening Reading re Apple's removal of an app that helped Hong Kong natives track police: "We now go to Lord_Amhran for his analysis. 'Tim Cook is nothing but a fucking coward'"
