Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast lands on a Switch far, far away later this month

Sharpen your light saber (or whatever) and prepare to take up the mantle of Jedi in a PC-gaming classic, new for Nintendo Switch later this month.

Today's Nintendo Direct brought surprising and happy news from a galaxy far, far away. The PC gaming classic Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast will let you assume the role of a Jedi on Nintendo Switch on September 24.

If you watched Nintendo's Direct and felt this announcement came out of nowhere faster than Luke Skywalker shooting a womp rat on Tattooine, you weren't alone. It's exciting, though. Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast was released in 2002 for the PC, and built on id Software's Quake 3 engine. It's considered one of the greatest Star Wars games ever, and that's a short list.

Jedi Outcast garnered acclaim for its graphics, its light saber combat, and its wide array of environments, enemies, and gameplay styles. If you missed out on this gem 17 years ago, or if you're interested in experiencing it for the first time, you won't have to wait long. Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast will be released on Nintendo Switch on September 24, just a few weeks away.

Nintendo's Direct was packed with nearly 40 minutes of announcements and gameplay footage, including the grand unveiling of Super Nintendo Online as part of every Nintendo Switch Online membership and, in another oldie-but-goodie port, a re-release of Doom 64 on November 22.

          Them's fightin' words.

But honestly the whole nuts Dark Forces --> Jedi Knight series is fantastic fun. I wish they found a way to bring multiplayer to it though. Multiplayer in Jedi Outcast & Academy were fantastic with friends. Kind of hope they do Dark Forces at some point.

Force pulling people and dropping them off the edge of the map was a great technique in winning CTF.

Force pull then turn 180 to stab behind was my first experience with multiplayer cheese, and it was glorious.

I'd take force choke at a high enough level to lift and do the same thing, was often less resisted and you could use it in replacement of both push and pull.

That might have been it. Been forever since I played.

I know I remember joining duel servers and then trolling people when you have to bow before fighting and just stabbing them first. Generally prompted with being kicked from the server right away but not all servers were admin run.

Well it meant you could only do one person at a time. You wanted to push two duallers away or a group of people you needed push/pull.

I just liked when someone got in my way and was ready to challenge me and stop my 5th run to capture their flag. Only to grab them and drop them off the edge of the map with them swinging their light saber wildly hoping it makes them fly.

when we LAN'd the game there was a kind of DBZ mode we did where we'd play with noclip enabled and bound to a hotkey, so we were saber fighting while basically teleporting around and into/through walls haha
