Go ape with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD gameplay clip
We're not monkeying around. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD has its first gameplay trailer, and it looks great!
The long-awaited Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is coming, and it'll be landing on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC very soon.
Right now, you can check out your first glimpse at gameplay – just don't slip on any banana peels lying around on the track. This upgraded HD remake looks like it'll be a slick new riff on the game, which originally debuted on the Wii back in 2006. While Banana Blitz wasn't as well-received as the other games in the series at first, fans grew to warm to it despite its insistence on using motion controls.
Luckily, this version of the game will allow players the option of using more traditional controls instead of motion, and that means it'll be a prime candidate for on-the-go play on the Switch. With a game as touchy and slippery as Super Monkey Ball, you really need those regular tactile controls to really do that well in the first place, anyway.
There hasn't been an official Super Monkey Ball game since Super Monkey Ball Bounce came to Android and iOS devices in 2014. Ahead of that, Sega released Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz for PlayStation Vita in 2012, which meant another handheld entry for the series. Then Super Monkey Ball 3D for Nintendo 3DS emerged in 2011, and Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll for Wii in 2010. But it's been nearly ten years now since we got a new entry, and Sega is trying to step up – at least we're getting an HD remake to spend time with, even if we're not getting a new game.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is scheduled to debut on October 29, 2019. Better start practicing now!
