The classic platforming duo join the fight.

Banjo and Kazooie will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC fighter. During Nintendo’s E3 2019 direct, they officially confirmed the duo will join the epic roster of characters. A cinematic showed Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and King K. Rool relaxing in a cabin, when a shadow is seen outside the window. When the three look outside, they see the silhouette of what looks like Banjo Kazzoie, but is revealed to actually be Duck Hunt in disguise. After this fake out, the real Banjo and Kazooie swoop down and steal the scene.

This reveal is a nod to last year’s King K. Rool announcement. In which Donkey and Diddy Kong (along with audiences) were faked out with a false K. Rool appearance, only for the real character to show up moments later.

A gameplay reel is then shown of the duo in action. Banjo and Kazooie fight in a similar style to that of Duck Hunt. Both characters swapping places and delivering blows. Kazooie works to give the fighter verticality and is crucial when recovering from off stage. The reel also revealed what the stages will look like. Each DLC character in Super Smash. Bros. Ultimate will come with their own stage and music track. This holds true for Banjo Kazooie. Locations from the original title can be seen as one of the upcoming stages in Ultimate.

Banjo Kazooie won’t be the next DLC character to arrive in Smash Ultimate. Earlier we reported that The Hero from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive age will join the fight this summer. Players will have to wait until later this fall to get their hands on Banjo Kazooie. This was one of several huge announcements made during Nintendo’s E3 2019 direct.
