Tales of Arise, the latest installment in the long-running Tales series from Bandai Namco, was given the world premiere treatment at the Xbox E3 2019 press conference. As with many of the other game reveals featured during the conference, Tales of Arise was given a release date window of 2020.

The Tales series may not be immediately familiar to players in the West. Its first game, Tales of Phantasia, originally released for Japanese audiences in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. However, that game didn't receive an official English language translation until it landed on the Game Boy Advance in 2006. As such, most players may have had their first taste of the series in 1998 with the release of Tales of Destiny.

Thankfully, the fan response for those first two games was strong enough for Bandai Namco to continue releasing Tales games in Western territories. The latest of those were Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria, which released in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

As for Tales of Arise, the details here are pretty slim. A press release for Microsoft's Xbox E3 2019 briefing indicates that Arise follows "the journey of two people, born on opposing sister planets, each looking to change their fate and create a new future." The press release also states that the game will feature see the return of "classic" series mechanics, including its frenetic action-based combat system, and include a new cast of characters.
