Bleeding Edge, a 4-on-4 multiplayer game by Ninja Theory, has been officially revealed at Xbox’s E3 2019 press conference. The reveal trailer features a host of unique and quirky characters with a focus on the game’s melee-oriented combat. Please see the Bleeding Edge announce trailer below.

Bleeding Edge revealed

Ninja Theory, the team behind the critically acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, is launching their first Microsoft exclusive title, Bleeding Edge. This release comes after the team was acquired by Microsoft as part of a large, sweeping series of acquisitions by the manufacturers of the Xbox One.

Bleeding Edge appears to be a melee-oriented multiplayer title where players pick from one of twelve unique characters. So far, ten characters have been revealed with two remaining a mystery. The line-up is rather eclectic in both style and functionality.

Judging by the Bleeding Edge site, the characters are split into a few main classes: Heavy, Support, and Assassin. Of these classes, there is a melee option and a couple of ranged choices. Given the inclusion of “ranged” characters, it seems as if it won’t be based entirely on melee combat.

A technical alpha is planned to take place on June 27 and sign-ups are currently available through the Bleeding Edge site.

It’s incredible to see Ninja Theory flexing a different muscle after they astounded us with the gritty story of Hellblade. The company actually has a history of creating fighting games, as they developed Kung Fu Chaos for the original Xbox when the company was operating under the name, Just Add Monsters. Since then, the team has developed the likes of Heavenly Sword and DmC: Devil May Cry.

Bleeding Edge is set to release exclusively on Xbox One and Windows 10, though no release date has yet been mentioned. Be sure to check out the full video game release date schedule for 2019, as there are a tonne of games due out before the end of the year.
