Borderlands: The Handsome Collection hits PS Plus in June
If you need to get ready for Borderlands 3, June will be the time to pick up Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for free.
Summer break is set to begin for school-aged kids and young college adults and PlayStation is going to give all of those people something to play this June. Two blockbuster games are about to rotate in for the next batch of PlayStation Plus freebies, one of which should help prepare players for one of the year's most anticipated games.
PlayStation.Blog notes that Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Sonic Mania will both be available for free for all PlayStation Plus members in June. When you consider that the Handsome Collection is a compilation, this is like getting three big-time games for no extra charge.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection includes Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and all of their DLC packs. While just compiling those into one convenient package would be enough for some people, Gearbox also tossed in split-screen multiplayer and updated visuals for the current generation of consoles. Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel both originally released on PlayStation 3 and those save files will carry over, if you're interested in bringing everything along to the new PS4 hotness. Use this to gear up for Borderlands 3, which is set to release in just a few months.
Sonic Mania proved that vintage Sonic is still the best Sonic. It's built on the foundation of the original Sega Genesis games, while also containing a series of new challenges and remixed stages to keep even the most veteran Sonic players on their toes. While most of the 3D Sonics have been developed by Sega and Team Sonic, Sonic Mania was a collaboration effort between Sega and veteran developer Christian Whitehead, who had previously put together Sonic ports for mobile devices. The result was a game praised by both Sonic fans and gaming critics.
It should be noted that Sonic Mania has since been updated into Sonic Mania Plus. The PlayStation Plus freebie is the base Sonic Mania, but those looking to upgrade to Sonic Mania Plus will need to pony down an extra $4.99 for access to the game's new characters.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Sonic Mania will be free to all PlayStation Plus members for one month starting on June 3. In the meantime, Overcooked and What Remains of Edith Finch are available to pick up for free right now.
