Team Sonic Racing - Frozen Junkyard gameplay preview

Watch a full race from the upcoming Sonic kart racer

We got to preview the upcoming Team Sonic Racing at an event recently. We also got to interview a designer from the team behind the game about his team’s approach when designing this installment, which you can watch here. As apart of our time with the game, we also have a full (uncut) race from Sonic Team Racing that you can watch below.

The match lasts about six minutes and is set on the Frozen Junkyard track. Although the stage does have some ramps and loops, it doesn’t stray too far from your traditional arcade racetrack. The video is recorded from the perspective of Sonic’s right hand man, Miles “Tails” Prower. Tails is working alongside Shadow the hedgehog and Amy Rose in an effort to emerge victorious over the other three teams.

Although the race is composed twelve drivers sorted into four teams of three, you’ll notice how quickly things get scattered and teammates get separated. Throughout the race, you’re fighting to come in first, even if that means passing allies. Even though you can’t directly control anyone’s vehicle but your own, there will be several chances, through wisps and abilities, to improve the circumstances of your teammates. Once the race ends, four cards will appear where players can “commend” some of the best performances of a match, similar to what’s done in Overwatch. These cards showcase highlights such as “Opponents spun out” or “Time spent in first place.” Next, the leaderboard will  show who came in what place, and how many points they contributed to their teams score on a side meter. Put your skills to the test in Team Sonic Racing when it hits PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on May 21.
