Interview with the Creative Director of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
We recently had a chance to sit down and talk with Patrice Désilets, the Creative Director of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey to talk about the game, how far it's come, and what it's all about.
Best known for helping to create the Assassin’s Creed series, Patrice Désilets has been hard at work on a new game for the past few years. Following his departure from Ubisoft in 2010 (and his second departure after the THQ Montreal acquisition in 2013), Désilets has been working on a new title, one that looks to explore evolution and the path that humankind followed throughout it.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is an interesting game to say the least. We recently had a chance to play Ancestors, where we were able to explore the lush forests that make up a good bit of the game’s level design. While Ancestors is definitely something to keep an eye on, we wanted to know more about the game, and the team’s hopes and ambitions with it. To learn more, we headed out to Reboot Develop Blue, where we had a chance to sit down and talk to Désilets himself about the upcoming survival game.
Considering the overall subject matter of Ancestors, we were curious to know how Désilets and his team had captured the time period and the science behind everything, as well as how they would really bring that to life in the game itself. Désilets stated that he did a lot of research on the subject matter, but at the end of the day it all came down to it being a game. “I’m not a scholar,” Désilets begins. “I’m not trying to prove a point about science. That’s not my job.”
While Ancestors is based off of some of the latest scientific findings, at the end of the day, Désilets and his team just want to make an engaging and enjoyable experience for players to dive into. It’s all about pushing the boundaries and creating more immersive and memorable experiences that really draw the player in.
You can check out the full interview with Patrice Désilets in the embed above. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey doesn’t have a release date just yet, thought they are planning for a release sometime this year on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this promising title as it continues through its development.
