Battlefield 5 Chapter 4: Defying The Odds starts in June
The DICE team has revealed the development roadmap for Battlefield 5, teasing Chapter 4: Defying The Odds and closing 2019 with Chapter 5.
We're still in the thick of the game's third chapter, but DICE has opened up the floodgates and shared an updated development roadmap for Battlefield 5 players. Via this content schedule, we've learned that Chapter 4 is called Defying the Odds and will feature a new close-quarters PvP mode. The team also teased a massive addition coming in Chapter 5.
Battlefield 5 Tides of War Chapter 4 is called Defying the Odds and will go live in June, as revealed on the official blog post for the updated Battlefield 5 roadmap, and it will deliver multiple new maps and modes. One of the new modes, which doesn't have a name yet, drops players into tight arenas for 5v5 matches. It'll be set within one of the new maps, which is a close-quarters area with an urban design that "has been sought after by the community." The other map, called Marita, is set in the 1940s during the second battle of Greece. It features a mountainside overlooking a river.
With all the excitement for the summer chapter, we can't forget that Chapter 3: Lightning Strikes still has a massive bomb to drop on Battlefield 5 players. March 25 marks the arrival of Firestorm, DICE's take on the battle royale genre. The Combined Arms mode, which features PvE co-op gameplay, will also be getting two Fjell 652 maps and a hardcore mode.
Chapter 3: Lightning Strikes will also feature the new Mercury map, set in the Mediterranean, and a new mode called Outpost will be dropping right before the shift to Chapter 4. Outpost's gameplay is described as securing and holding objectives to ensure your team "assembles enough soldiers to endure through the fight," which sounds a bit like a PvE wave mode. We'll learn more about it in the near future.
As far as what Battlefield 5 players can expect from Tides of War Chapter 5, all we know is that players should expect "a land, air, and sea invasion in a completely new theater of war." This gives very little away beyond the scope of whatever is coming, but it'd be nice to see the massive Firestorm map get another game mode. Other battle royale-focused titles mix things up with various events that switch up the rules, but Battlefield's formula could be utilized to create some fresh experiences for the genre.
Battlefield 5 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Access to Chapter 3: Lightning Strikes, Chapter 4: Defying the Odds, and Chapter 5 comes via Tides of War, which is a series of free updates coming to all players of Battlefield 5. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
