You'll know you've won when The Drifter tells you that your Primeval has been defeated.

There are three main things you need to know about the Primeval boss fight in Gambit Prime. First, you cannot damage the Primeval until you have lowered its shield. This can be done by defeating three special enemies around the map. Once those enemies are defeated, the final one will drop a buff that allows you to deal damage for a short amount of time. Like normal Gambit, the Primeval is healed by any kills that invaders can acquire when they come over to your arena. Now that you have a rough overview of how the fight will work, let’s talk about each portion separately.

How to kill the Envoys

Once the Primeval has spawned, you’ll start the boss battle off. To kill the Primeval in Gambit Prime, you’re going to need to first kill three Envoys. Two will spawn—marked by red icons on your HUD. Defeat these two Envoys and a third will spawn somewhere on the map.

You'll need to burn through three Envoys to be able to damage the Primeval in Gambit Prime.

You can see where the third Envoy will spawn by looking for a clump of Taken goop on the ground.

When the third Envoy has spawned, go ahead and burn it as quickly as possible. Once it dies, a pool of light will appear on the ground where it perished. This is where you’ll get the Primeval Slayer buff. You will need to pick up this buff to be able to deal damage to the Primeval. The buff only lasts 22 seconds, so you’re going to want to make the most of it when you do have it available. Keep in mind that invaders can kill you or your teammates. If they manage to do this, they will heal the Primeval, making it harder for you to kill the boss and win the match.

The Primeval Slayer buff will stack each time you kill the Envoys in Gambit Prime.

The good thing about the Primeval Slayer buff, is that each time you kill the Envoys it will stack. So, if you miss out on the first instance, you can deal even more damage during the second phase and so on. This makes it easy to make up for lost damage if an invader drops in and kills a couple of your team members. It’s important to remember that your enemy also gets this same buff, so they can burn the Primeval just as quickly as you can.

As long as you and your team work together, you shouldn’t have much trouble learning how to kill the Primeval in Gambit Prime. Just watch out for invaders and make sure you have your strongest weapons equipped to help burn through the boss’ massive health pool.
