Fortnite update 7.20 adds itemized glider redeploy

The polarizing gameplay feature is back, but with a twist.

Epic Games announced via blog post that the glider redeploy feature will be making its return to Fortnite Battle Royale in v7.20. They did an initial test run of the feature during Season 6, in which all game modes allowed players could use their gliders when jumping from buildings and structures. This change had a significant impact on moment to moment gameplay, and was met with strong response from the community. Some praised the feature for adding mobility and making it easier to get from point A to point B when traversing the map. Others bashed glider redeploy, citing it as incentivising players to third-party fights and dive headfirst into chaos, while also working as a get out of jail free card when escaping build battles and other conflicts. Epic has listened to both sides of the matter and have opted to bring glider redeploy back to Fortnite, but there’s a catch.

Rather than being a feature available to all players with an unlimited number of uses, the glider will be itemized in v7.20. This means that you can only use the redeploy feature if you physically pick up the glider item (available in floor loot, Chests, Vending Machines and Supply Llamas) and keep it in your inventory. You can then activate glider redeploy when airborne. The glider redeploy item will also have a limited amount of charges on it, similar to the grappler. Epic has yet to confirm the number of uses each glider item will come with.

We’ll see how things shake out when patch 7.20 lands in Fortnite Battle Royale tomorrow, January 15 at 5am ET. Where do you stand on the glider redeploy debate? Sound off in the chatty!
