When does the Dawning start for Destiny 2?

The Dawning is Destiny 2's wintery celebration, lasting for a couple of weeks in December, and it's set to start soon!

Knowing when the Dawning starts in Destiny 2 is going to be critical for players looking to get in and start working towards unlocking the limited-time goods. Thankfully, there’s not long now to wait before the Dawning kicks off and the Tower is transformed into a winter wonderland.

When does the Dawning start

According to a recent Bungie blog, the Dawning in Destiny 2 will start on Tuesday, December 11 and run until Tuesday, January 1, giving players three weeks to enjoy the festivities. Destiny 2 is scheduled to go down for maintenance from 9:00 AM PST to 11:00 AM PST, at which point the Dawning will likely go live.

During the Dawning, players will be able to partake in all manner of activities with the end goal being to unlock some pretty cool items. On offer this year are some sleigh-themed Sparrows, a machine gun called Avalanche that has random rolls, and a bevy of unique cosmetics available from Tess Everis’ engrams.

Because it is a silly season of giving and gifts, there will be double drops for players who are at that max level. These players will receive a Bright Engram as well as a Dawning Engram, increasing their chances of receiving something special. The Dawning items will also be a part of a knock-out list, where once an item has been received it will be removed from the loot pool.

Probably the most exciting thing to look out for when the Dawning starts is the return of Eva Levante, a character players haven’t seen since the end of the original Destiny. Eva didn’t really have a place at the start of Destiny 2, what with the changes to how shaders and emblems worked, so it’s nice to see her returning to the Tower safely.
