Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition - price, pre-order details, bonuses, and DLC characters
First things first: the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition is slated to cost $139.99, and it's available for pre-order at major retailers like GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy. Orders are expected to start shipping on December 7, but it's entirely possible that players can pick up the Special Edition at local storefronts, assuming there's available stock or if they reserved their own copy.
Given that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition premium version of the game, players are likely expecting a selection of extra goodies and in-game content. Curiously, that's not the case here. However, there's one big draw to the Special Edition package: the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Edition Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Check it out in the image below.
According to the Gamestop product page, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition includes the base version of the game, the aforementioned Smash Bros. Ultimate Pro controller, and a special steelbook case. In addition to this, players who register their copy of the game with my Nintendo before January 31, 2019 will be eligible to receive the Piranha Plant playable fighter entirely for free. The added character is not exclusive to the special edition, however; it's available to anyone that owns the game.
It's worth noting that there's also a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Limited Edition that packs together the game alongside a special Gamecube controller and Nintendo Switch controller adapter. Details about this bundle are relatively sparse, but the package is at least featured over on the GameStop website where it's priced at $109.99. It's not immediately clear if the Limited Edition bundle will be available at other retailers.
