Heroes of the Storm reveals Orphea, first original character in series history
As Blizzard expands the in-game lore they're ready to reveal some truly original content.
Today during the BlizzCon 2018 opening ceremonies Blizzard's newly appointed president J Allen Brack revealed the first ever original character for the companies popular MOBA title Heroes of the Storm. This is a major departure for the series since all the previous playable characters have come from the companies other franchises like Overwatch, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and so on. However, Orphea, Heir of Raven Court is the first playable character to be developed from within the game's own lore.
Orphea is a young, white-haired girl whose homeland seems to have been destroyed by her father, the Raven Lord. In her reveal trailer is shows her seeking vengance against her estranged parent. She uses death magic and carries an odd cabinet marked with a skull on her back from which spells seems to be summoned.
The brief glimpse we got of Orphea seems to show her using her summons to create AoE traps from which giant, fanged demon mouths spout forth to chomp down her enemies. Along with the epic animated battle and a look at some gameplay, fans were also given a glimpse at some of her alt skins which included and super kawaii school girl uniform with school locker instead of a cabinet.
Orphia may be the first original playable character, but she probably won't be the last as Blizzard plans to expand the HOTS lore going forward. She is also free for all BlizzCon 2018 attendees and ticket holders. Later this weekend they will also be revealing a second new HOTS character as well.
