Streets of Rage 4 announced by team behind Windjammers 2
The new trailer reveals the return of Blaze Fielding and Axel Stone.
Game developer and publisher Dotemu is carving a path as a definitive retro gaming specialist. After remaking Windjammers and recently announcing Windjammers 2, the team has made another surprise announcement. After a 24-year hiatus, Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, and Lizardcube are teaming up for the revival of a classic brawler with Streets of Rage 4. Release date and platforms are unknown at this time.
Are you willing to risk anything on the Streets of Rage?@Lizardcube, @Guard_Crush and @Dotemu are proud to announce Streets of Rage 4. https://t.co/ARohSIBflh #SOR4 pic.twitter.com/PJgxmlb6ok

The trailer shows off a new, hand-drawn art style along with a couple returning characters for the new entry in the side-scrolling brawler series. Blaze Fielding and Axel Stone make their face-crushing returns and a new, snake-wielding villain is teased at the end of the trailer as well. As of right now, we only have limited information on Streets of Rage 4, but I have my fingers crossed for the return of the rollerblading cool kid Eddie "Skate" Hunter. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.

Reading that again it kinda sounds more negative than I intended. It doesn't need a onex/sli titans and it will have an audience on the switch, windjammers2 is already announced on switch/pc and its save to assume that they won't skip ps4/xbone either due to their install base.
Capcom publishes everywhere unless sony money was/is involved, which is most likely not the case for a small game that is chump change to them.-

Oddly enough I'm the same insofar that I never really used the ps3/360 (sub30 fps generation, I hated playing demons on ps3) and the ps4 has been collecting dust since last year while the xbone is mostly used for the occasional bc games.
The switch on the other hand has had me play a lot of games I would have played on the pc otherwise.
GET ON THE HYPE TRAIN! MILLEH WHERE ARE YOU!?

They were kind of supplanted by character action games. Stuff like God of War, DMC, Bayonetta, Yakuza, Batman Arkham, etc.
There are still modern throwbacks here and there. Games like Castle Crashers, Scott Pilgrim, River City Ransom Underground, Double Dragon Neon, Mother Russia Bleeds.
Guacamelee! is not strictly a brawler and is on a flat 2D plane, but it does have a fun combo based brawling system.

I did really enjoy Scott Pilgrim and Double Dragon Neon. Castle Crashers was fun but it just didn't quite to it for me like the other two did, but it was still fun. I might have to peep those others you mentioned.
I played and enjoyed the Arkham games I played (Asylum and City) and I never thought of it but I can see how they're kinda a spiritual successor to the brawlers. I guess I should change my way of thinking..I thought that the 3D brawler had basically died after the early PS2 era (I never played any of the other 3D titles you mentioned) but it really more kinda shifted, as you said. Thanks for that, I'll be thinking about that all afternoon.
