Streets of Rage 4 announced by team behind Windjammers 2

The new trailer reveals the return of Blaze Fielding and Axel Stone.

Game developer and publisher Dotemu is carving a path as a definitive retro gaming specialist. After remaking Windjammers and recently announcing Windjammers 2, the team has made another surprise announcement. After a 24-year hiatus, Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, and Lizardcube are teaming up for the revival of a classic brawler with Streets of Rage 4. Release date and platforms are unknown at this time.

The trailer shows off a new, hand-drawn art style along with a couple returning characters for the new entry in the side-scrolling brawler series. Blaze Fielding and Axel Stone make their face-crushing returns and a new, snake-wielding villain is teased at the end of the trailer as well. As of right now, we only have limited information on Streets of Rage 4, but I have my fingers crossed for the return of the rollerblading cool kid Eddie "Skate" Hunter. Neato. Streets of Rage 2 was definitely an oft-played game on my Genesis back in the day. Any word on what platforms this will be available on?

Its a low fidelity sidescrolling capcom game so basically any platform under the sun.

I think you are confusing this with Final Fight. Not that I blame you; it was essentially a console clone of FF at the time.

I remember playing Final fight but I actually have no recollection of ever playing streets of rage.

It was a Genesis exclusive and developed by Sega so if you didn't own that system it probably didn't hit your radar. It had a great soundtrack!

Reading that again it kinda sounds more negative than I intended. It doesn't need a onex/sli titans and it will have an audience on the switch, windjammers2 is already announced on switch/pc and its save to assume that they won't skip ps4/xbone either due to their install base.

Capcom publishes everywhere unless sony money was/is involved, which is most likely not the case for a small game that is chump change to them.

            It's cool.

My main concern actually is whether or not it will be on PC. I don't own any consoles/handhelds aside from an Xbox 360 that I never use.

Sell the 360/trade it in and get a switch on black friday or something. Its great for small ganes like this.

I can nearly promise you that if I buy a Switch it will get used as often as my 360 does.

Oddly enough I'm the same insofar that I never really used the ps3/360 (sub30 fps generation, I hated playing demons on ps3) and the ps4 has been collecting dust since last year while the xbone is mostly used for the occasional bc games.

The switch on the other hand has had me play a lot of games I would have played on the pc otherwise.

GET ON THE HYPE TRAIN! MILLEH WHERE ARE YOU!?

Beat em Ups are a hard genre to make good in 2018. Last one I played was devolver's mother Russia bleeds and it was just ok

Yeah for sure. The Scott Pilgrim one was the last one I really had any fun with. I will say, going through the classics with my 6 year old is a ton of fun. He's able to just mash a button and have a good time. So far we've done all the Turtle games and the Xmen one. Next up on our list is Simpsons!

I was cool with it til I saw the shirt tied around the dudes waist and why is he teamed up with a hooker. The rage in the streets surely has changed.

Kind of looks similar in style to Windjammers 2, comic book-ey. Makes sense if they are the same teams with the same artists.

More interesting than pixel art like the originals or something more modern and realistic looking I suppose, but the soundtrack is what really matters here.

I always liked brawlers and Streets of Rage in particular. I'll definitely check this out.

I wish brawlers didn't go away. I even liked The Bouncer.

They were kind of supplanted by character action games. Stuff like God of War, DMC, Bayonetta, Yakuza, Batman Arkham, etc.

There are still modern throwbacks here and there. Games like Castle Crashers, Scott Pilgrim, River City Ransom Underground, Double Dragon Neon, Mother Russia Bleeds.

Guacamelee! is not strictly a brawler and is on a flat 2D plane, but it does have a fun combo based brawling system.

I did really enjoy Scott Pilgrim and Double Dragon Neon. Castle Crashers was fun but it just didn't quite to it for me like the other two did, but it was still fun. I might have to peep those others you mentioned.

I played and enjoyed the Arkham games I played (Asylum and City) and I never thought of it but I can see how they're kinda a spiritual successor to the brawlers. I guess I should change my way of thinking..I thought that the 3D brawler had basically died after the early PS2 era (I never played any of the other 3D titles you mentioned) but it really more kinda shifted, as you said. Thanks for that, I'll be thinking about that all afternoon.

Double Dragon Neon was awful. If that game had gotten good reviews then I think the genre might've seen more games since.

I'd love to see a new Final Fight game.

Batman: Arkham Asylum has REALLY cool beat-em-up system. The animations and the way it all flows together is really well done.
