Nintendo Switch Diablo 3 Eternal Collection officially announced, includes Zelda themed bonuses

The first Blizzard title for Switch is confirmed.

After rumors, multiple leaks, and a nightlight tease, the very first marriage of Blizzard and Nintendo's hybrid console is confirmed. The Diablo 3 Eternal Collection is coming to Nintendo Switch this fall and Nintendo shared a video celebrating the announcement and showing off the multiplayer functionality.

As we touched on in our report on the Forbes leak, Diablo 3 can be played by up to four players on one Nintendo Switch via shared screen or a combination of TV and handheld play or wirelessly with individual devices. The trailer also shows off officially gameplay for the Switch version of Diablo 3 and it looks pretty solid thus far.

The Eternal Collection will feature the base Diablo 3 game, Reaper of Souls expansion, and Rise of the Necromancer. This means seven classes, five acts, and seasons worth of content for players to engage with. Exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, there are pieces of the Zelda franchise to be found in the game: A Cucco companion pet, Triforce portrait frame, unique cosmetic wings, and a transmogrification set that lets players use Ganondorf's armor.

Adventure mode will be unlocked from the start. I’m undecided but that’s a huge positive right there.

Can you do that with the PS4/Xbox versions? I leveled up one character, didn't like the class, but have no interest in doing the whole story again.

Apparently this is the first time adventure mode is unlocked without completing the story first. None of the other versions appear to have this

It sounds like you completed the story though so you should have adventure mode unlocked for whatever new class you want.

Really? That's awesome. Thought I had to play the whole game again. I'll have to look at the character creator again. I've never done Adventure Mode, do I still need to level up?

You still need to level up but that shouldn't take long if you jack up the difficulty

Its been a long time since I've played but I guess you'd start a new character at hard difficulty. Expert and above gives away more XP but enemies also take longer to kill, so its always a balancing act there.

59.99 though. For a port that's a bit high. The same reason i didn't pay full price for skyrim. I feel its just too much money for a port of a game.

Yeah, I can see that. Right now the Diablo III battle chest and that new DLC are $45 combined. But for me it’d be worth it to have it on Switch.

Wouldn’t it be Blizzard setting the pricing?

Nintendo just took Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, a game newer than Diablo III, added more stuff to it, and released it for $40 (and people still bitched it was too expensive).

Blizzard is also much more price elastic than Nintendo is. Nintendo games tend to only get cheaper if they’re re-released as part of a “greatest hits” line.

Third parties set their own prices. Okami HD just came out for $20 and most games are the same price as on Steam or other consoles.

The only limitation is that online purchases can't be cheaper than retail MSRP.

The PS4 and Xbox versions have been like $20 during sales before. And they run at 4K.

Portability = millions in sales. Dirty play or not, Blizzard would be foolish to price it any lower. They even opened up adventure mode from the start knowing that most people will be double dipping.

There's clearly value in portability given how the Switch has been flying off shelves (it'll outsell four years of XB1 sales in under two years) and how much better games on it sell than their counterparts on other consoles or PC.

And what did they debut at?

Regardless, yes the Switch versions are likely to go down in price at some point. Plus it’s not like they just hit recompile and put it on a cart.

Yeah that's super dumb for a game that old that everyone has played already with Xbox and ps4 versions at 39.99. That means it'll be 79.99 in Canada which is just more ripoff Nintendo pricing, especially for someone that doesn't even know where his dock is.

Can I use my same characters on my PC account? That would be huge.

No mention of seasons as well ...

And I think the lights flickering and the Diablo face are something

There is no way they would allow cross account access. Especially considering there will be content differences, even if there weren't I can't see blizzard wanting it and there is no way in any possible circumstance that Nintendo would allow it.

Well, they did just allow cross play between various platforms on Minecraft.

But a better question might be: can you currently use PC characters on the Mac or Xbox 360 or PS3? If not then I seriously doubt they would add that for the Switch version.

The story is AWFUL in my opinion. It over explains everything, the boss demons all send you letters and call you ARROGANT NEPHALEM, they send memos to their subordinates that are like shit your shitty middle manager at work would send. MINIONS, THE SHARED REFRIGERATOR SMELLS... UNPLEASANT. PLEASE REMOVE YOUR BELONGINGS BEFORE YOU ARE MADE TO SUFFER... AN EXTRA WEEK OF KITCHEN CLEANUP DUTY.

the idea that the player characters are all magical people who are magically capable of defeating angels and demons detracts from the game's ability to make the player feel like a badass (I didn't grow and become awesome, I was just born into this magical bloodline of awesomeness).

That being said in adventure mode, you're bouncing around various parts of the story without context. I prefer that, but I'm not sure what I would have thought of the game if that was all I ever played. You might prefer to run through it if you can tolerate some dumb shit and want to contextualize the content.

If you haven’t played it I would go through it. But you can do it later. A lot of lore won’t make sense unless you know what happened.

I like to imagine that this will lead to a Blizz character(s) in Smash Bros. Ultimate. What character would you want in Smash and/or what character do you think would most likely be chosen for Smash were that to happen?

I would want an Overwatch character, I think. Maybe Doomfist or Roadhog with Genji as an echo fighter for Greninja.

I think Tyrael would be a possible choice. He wouldn't be particularly out of place with chars like the Belmonts and Bayonetta already in the game, and his abilities would be a natural fit. I don't see a character based on a Diablo class.
