Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin discuss Doom Eternal's new gameplay mechanics, storytelling and PVP
QuakeCon 2018 was our first look at the game's gory goodness, and Shacknews got a chance to learn more.
Shacknews sat down with id Software's Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin for a brief chat about the fantastic-looking Doom Eternal during this year's QuakeCon. As expected, it looked positively amazing, and we can't wait to get our hands on it.
The pair spoke at length about building the Doom universe, including some tidbits about storytelling, PvP, and the "invader" system coming up.
"We call it the A story and the B story. The A story will be all the things that you need to do. We want to make sure we're taking you to all the cool places. The B story, that's where you provide greater context for the people you're talking to and the why behind what you're doing," said creative director Martin of new storytelling tactics that'll be utilized in the game.
The pair also discussed about the cool new "invader" feature in-game that's coming to Doom Eternal, where you can suit up and decide to invade your friend's game as a demon.
"It makes a walk down a hallway when you have invaders in your level that much more compelling, because you don't know where they are, and you don't know when they're going to come out, and it's awesome for everybody." Martin elaborated.
Get ready for Doom Eternal soon, though it unfortunately doesn't have a release date just yet. We'll make sure to keep you in the loop as additional tidbits come out.
