Spotted this on the steam store and it looks fairly interesting.
Every so often, you come across an incredibly intriguing game in the Steam storefront after crawling through a ton of rehashes, asset flips, and things simply outside your scope of interests. Battle royale clones are a dime a dozen on Steam, but, the occasional title stands out from the pack. Swordsman X launched on July 28, 2018, and could be one worth watching going forward.
The game sets players in the typical battle royale match format where they must survive as one of 100 players, but that's where the comparisons to popular battle royales like PUBG and Fortnite end. Ranged combat is limited because of the game's setting, so the developers have built what looks like a robust melee combat engine. That alone gives this particular battle royale an incredibly different vibe from competitors, but it also makes me wonder if a battle royale match format is best for this.
When I watched the gameplay in the trailer above, it made me crave a deathmatch mode of some kind with quicker matches than a battle royale affords. I haven't played Swordsman X yet, but it has gotten a mixed reception since its launch on July 27, 2018, and long server queues and lag are a couple of the most significant complaints. The gameplay is "very interesting" and the game has "tons of promise" so we'll keep an eye on this one. Stay tuned to Shacknews for more updates.
