Sony's Q1 Sales Up On the Strength of God of War
The Playstation brand is stronger than ever after a successful first quarter of 2018.
Big budget console exclusives are still very important to the console manufacturers for a simple reason - they drive software and hardware sales. Sony released their first quarter earnings report this morning and are touting the fact that sales for the gaming division are up 36% year-on-year, in large part thanks to the performance of SIE Santa Monica’s God of War. Kratos’ latest adventure was huge for Sony this year, selling millions of copies and and further establishing the company’s position against Microsoft.
Sony reported operating income increased to 83.5 billion yen. The first quarter success has the company adjusting its yearly earnings expectations to accommodate for the upswing in hardware and software sales. The company also has another huge first party release in Spider-Man coming on September 7. A special edition PS4 Pro with Spider-Man theming will also be released at the same time and will likely be a big hit for the company.
