Like Microsoft, EA, and Bethesda, Square Enix brought their own dedicated presentation to E3 2018 to give gamers a glimpse of what’s to come this holiday and beyond. During the show, they threw out a new trailer for the next game in the Dragon Quest saga. Dragon Quest fans in North America haven’t had lots to be excited about over the last decade, but all that changes this fall when Square Enix brings Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age: Edition of Light to PC and PS4 September 4. Those who have played the Japanese version of the game last year will find that this new version is more than a simple port, bringing new features and UI enhancements.

Shacknews editor Ozzie Mejia got a chance to go hands on with the new Dragon Quest last week and gave his impressions is a preview piece. The game sounds like it’s shaping up to be exactly what longtime fans of the series have wanted. The game will be available digitally on PC and PS4, with the PS4 also receiving a physical release. Check back in with Shacknews for more Dragon Quest information as it develops.

I'll buy it on Steam, but man I wish we were getting the 16-bit style 3DS version.

Also that headline isn't really true. There have been consistent DS and 3DS releases of all the prior games and remakes, and Dragon Quest Builders came out last year.

It's a quest, involving at some point one or more dragons.

It was Dragon Warrior when originally released over here. Think like a classic console RPG series like Final Fantasy, only this one didn't get weird and unrecognizable - the games still play more or less like the first few NES games did, just drastically enhanced and way more convience features.

Wow, that voice over. I hope that's a sign of the quality of work that went into this. I was less than impressed with the work in Ni No Kuni II. The trailers make it feel like this should have more polish than Ni No Kuni though. AND this comes out just days before my birthday. What a great b-day treat this will be. Just too bad this doesn't come out before Labor Day. That would have been an excellent way to blow a long weekend. LOL!

The voice acting in DQ8 on the 3DS was solid, so I have no reason to worry about it.
