Players who have been curious to learn how April of 2018 stacked up in the video game sales market can wonder no more. Industry analyst Mat Piscatella of The NPD Group has put together a new report concerning all video game and related sales for last month, and perhaps unsurprisingly, big games like God of War and Far Cry 5 made the top of the sales list.

The report indicates that dollar sales of game software rose all the way up to $359 million in April, a growth of 13 percent compared to the same period last year. Overall software spending is also up nine percent year over year, which now puts the figure at a smooth $1.9 billion.

Naturally, God of War was the best selling game in April, earning the highest profit ever garnered by a PlayStation exclusive during its launch month. The game's success actually helped April 2018 reach the highest-ever dollar sales figure per month since recording began back in 1995. Far Cry 5 wasn't too far behind God of War, ranking second in overall April sales, and the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit had a strong showing, coming in fourth behind third ranking entry MLB 18: The Show.

Hardware sales also managed to increase year over year by 15%, rising all the way up to $225 million for the month. The rise is similar when viewed year-to-date, as hardware spending increased by 14$ overall to a whopping $1.2 billion for the period. The PlayStation 4 once again topped these sales figures, with the Limited Edition God of War PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB model earning the highest number in dollar sales. The Nintendo Switch with standard Red/Blue Joy-Con controllers lead the hardware sales in overall volume.
