Call of Duty Introduces Blackout, New Battle Royale Survival Mode
This is the mode we've all been waiting for.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 may not be featuring a traditional campaign, but it will be getting something else: Blackout, a new battle royale survival mode. Yes, it's actually happening.
It's 1500 times bigger than Nuketown, and that's just the beginning. It'll feature your "favorite characters," "favorite weapons," and favorite parts of your favorite maps.
During today's presentation, design director David Vonderhaar discussed the new mode to explain what players can expect to see from it.
“For us to even consider this experience,” Vonderhaar said, “it had to be unique and done in the way that only Black Ops can do it," he said. Obviously this was meant in reference to comments that the experience might be derivative or less-than-original when compared to games like PUBG and Fortnite.
This is the first time Call of Duty has attempted anything that even resembles an open world adventure, and it will feature class-based character bustomization, as well as characters from previous Zombies campaigns, including Jason Hudson, Alex Mason, Viktor Reznov and Raul Menendez.
There's also a wide variety of vehicles players can use to traverse the terrain. "We're going to let you navigate that world with land, sea, and air vehicles," Treyarch teased today during the presentation.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is coming to retail shelves on October 12 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
