Persona 5 Worldwide Shipments Top A Whopping 2.2 Million
We never saw it coming. That's a lie, we totally did.
Persona 5 continues to perform exceedingly well, which should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. According to Atlus parent company Sega's latest financial results, the game has in fact topped more than two million units shipped worldwide. That's a lot of hearts being stolen around the globe.
Persona 5 first launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in April 2017, and it had already reached two million shipments in November 2017. Persona 5 was chosen as our Best PlayStation 4 Game of 2017 as well, which is very high praise.
As the first current-gen Persona game on PlayStation 4, it managed to single-handedly revitalize the genre with its engaging combination of dating sim and the familiar elements of Persona games past. It's one of the greatest Persona titles to date, yes, even better than Persona 4.
The Persona series has set itself apart from its JRPG brethren with it's hip, modern styling, and Persona 5 takes this to a new level. The interface has the same straightforward selections and informational styling as previous titles, but this time around Atlus has leveraged the power of the PlayStation 4 to make the entire affair much more dynamic feeling. It's all that and a bag of chips, as the kids say. They don't say that? They say it's "on fleek?" My bad. It's on fleek.
Here's hoping Persona 6 gets a swift release, because there's only so much waiting fans can take for a new iteration. They're awesome games, guys. No wonder they sell so well.

Small team and they had to build their own tools/engine. Next iteration will come faster and hopefully the p5 golden thing will come to switch/pc (they made some remarks when they interfered with the ps3 emulator and their fan polls floated the possibility of a switch release). As rpgs they tend to sell over a long period of time, they will make good money.
The game also doesn’t really compete with either of those games, my friend played all 3 of those and wouldn’t touch persona with a ten foot pole. Its just not the same target audience (even if there is overlap), even nier is an outlier in that lineup.-

Lol no. Not "ALL" games compete witch each other, no matter how good a game in any given genre might be, especially as niche as the weirdass japanese ones, it doesn’t compete with a AAA zelda. There is an overlap but dude is not going out to buy arma3 because I liked cod. When I said iterate faster I meant any product be it golden or a remaster of p4 or whatever else they are cooking up now that they have their tools set. If they are doing ps5 persona I'm ok with that but I wopuld not be surprised if they would release it on the switch along with the shin megami tensei series.
As for the localization, the game was full of japanese politics in jokes and allusions, the game was squarely targeting the japanese market, so yeah I'm with you on that, or at least it wouldn’t surprise me.
Given that the game sold much better in the west than in actual japan that is not going to happen again. Japanese devs are wising up to the fact that the world is a big place and that even halfassed pc ports can make moneyhats and outperform their isle.
