Ashland University Introduces $4000 Fortnite Battle Royale Scholarship
A four-player squad will represent the university in an official collegiate eSports team.
Joining the likes of Overwatch and League of Legends, Epic Games is bringing Fortnite Battle Royale to higher learning. Ashland University in Ohia is offering $4000 in tuition to top Fortnite players as part of a newly formed eSports program and will be holding open tryouts in the future.
Ashland's cost to attend for a semester hovers around $10,000, so the Fortnite scholarship puts a pretty good dent in the total cost. As Forbes reports, winners of the open tryout will get join a four-player Battle Royale squad and put their skills to work for their education. Fortnite's popularity has skyrocketed in recent months, even impacting grade school students after the release of the mobile edition of Fortnite Battle Royale. The eSports impact of the brand still has a ways to go, but efforts like Ashland University's will be instrumental in growth there.
