Shenmue 1 and 2 Announced For Current-Gen Consoles and PC

The cult favorites from Sega are finally landing on modern consoles.

At long last, Sega is answering fan prayers in a significant way. Shenmue 1 and 2 are coming to current-gen consoles and PC, including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, by way of Sega Europe Ltd. The fan-favorite saga following Ryo Hazuki as he works to avenge his father's death while figuring out the secrets of the Dragon Mirror is back, and in a big way. Now you can toss out that old original Xbox you've had in your closet for years for the off chance you might feel up to playing Shenmue 2 again. Ryo's getting an upgrade, baby.

If you've never had a chance to experience either Shenmue game, you're in for a real treat. These are the real deal, and will likely feel familiar to anyone who's ever enjoyed a Yakuza title (Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is out next week!). Featuring fully-realized open worlds with day and night cycles and weather changes as well as NPCs on their own schedules, it truly feels as though the lands of Japan, China, and Hong Kong come to life while you're exploring these games. And if for some reason you're not particularly fond of all that, you'll come back for the enthralling mini games, combat, and the mysteries waiting for you to unravel them.

This re-release will feature the option to swap between modern or classic controls, updated user interface options, fully scalable screen resolution, and both Japanese and English voiceovers so you can choose the one that feels best when playing. You never know whose voice might start grating on your nerves.

Both physical and digital editions of Shenmue 1 and 2 will be up for grabs via certain retailers, including Steam and US stores soon, but in the meantime you can check out additional information via the official Sega website. You can get your paws on the new hotness sometime this year. No specific release date has been announced just yet.
