Celebrate The Lunar New Year With Pokemon Go's Latest Event

A shiny Poochyena and extra Stardust for dog Pokemon are up for grabs during the event.

Lunar New Year is going on now, and this year we're celebrating the Year of the Dog. Like several other games (and Steam), Pokemon Go is currently hosting a special holiday-themed event. It's already live, which means you can run outside right now for a quick Pokemon-capturing party, as long as you're looking to nab puppy-themed Pokemon.

Until tomorrow, February 17, you can nab additional Stardust in heaping helpings every time you capture a Snubbull, Eevee, Poochyena, Electrike, or Growlithe in-game. They'll be appearing more frequently, so this should be a snap. Just make sure you're doing your due diligence and putting that Stardust to good use.

There's also a shiny Poochyena out in the wild that you'll be able to capture. Make sure you keep an eye out for this special variant Pokemon, and if you catch one you can evolve it into a Mightyena with the same shiny characteristics. But be quick about it, as you only have throughout tomorrow to grab the extra Stardust and Poochyena. You'll have to make it quick.

Pokemon Go just had a Valentine's Day event, and this is the newest addition to the game's rotating event schedule. The game is still regularly being updated, which is a good sign for Niantic, but there's still one glaring omission: traditional Pokemon game elements. Hopefully we'll see them folded in one day.
