App Based On Netflix's Black Mirror Predicts End of Your Relationship
Well...um...Happy Valentines Day?
The Black Mirror original series on Netflix focuses on the scary potential of tech evolution. One of the episodes, called Hang The DJ, features a piece of technology that sets singles up for a limited amount of time. The objective was for this device to evaluate how people handled different relationships and work toward setting them up with their perfect match. No spoilers, but there was a major twist to this tale as is usual with Black Mirror episodes. In celebration of Valentine's Day, Netflix is expanding their original series into the real world with an application that puts an expiration date on your relationship.
The web app, reported by The Verge and called COACH, gives you a link you have to share with a significant other before giving you a set time that the relationship will last. It's not as involved as the tech in the episode, of course, but it's a pretty cool marketing scheme on the perfect date.
My significant other wasn't available at the time, so I shared the link with other Shacknews staff and a close friend. Brittany and have nine years together, eclipsing any potential with other staff in additional efforts because the site was overloaded.
My friend Michael and I were initially given 16 years but, because he didn't click the fingerprint at the same time, it recalibrated and it took us down to five minutes. If you've watched the episode, you'll understand the significance of this. Share your results in Chatty!
