THQ Nordic Acquires Koch Media, Including Popular Publisher Deep Silver
Hot off one of its most significant releases of the year, Deep Silver joins THQ but keeps their entire staff intact.
THQ Nordic AB, the owner of THQ Nordic, has acquired every share of German media enterprise Koch Media. Koch Media was established in 1994, entering into the gaming industry two years after that and establishing their gaming label Deep Silver in 2002. THQ Nordic and Deep Silver will operate independently and deliver their own business plans over the coming years with no restructuring, change in staff, or change in relationships with business partners.
"Koch Media is ideally suited to foster our ambitions for growth, profitability based on its employees and longstanding business partners," says THQ Nordic AB's Founder and CEO Lars Wingefors. "Deep Silver has four AAA games in development that will generate further growth for the coming years. With Koch Media business partners we plan to remain the leading European publishing partner for the years to come.”
“Due to the great strategic fit of the two businesses, I believe that this is a superb strategic opportunity for Koch Media / Deep Silver and THQ Nordic," adds Klemens Kubndratitz, co-founder
Deep Silver just launched Kingdom Come: Deliverance yesterday, a game developed by indie team Warhorse Studios. The label also took on publishing Shenmue III and Agents of Mayhem. The label also has a new Metro entry coming later this year with Metro Exodus. This gives THQ Nordic a pretty stout library of games that also includes the Saints Row franchise and Dead Island.

Freespace is, as far as I can tell, currently fully owned by the pathetic shell of a company that is modern Interplay Entertainment.
There was a private auction for their entire pile of IP, but I've no idea what happened with that. Interplay is still doing their thing, it could be that no one hit a minimum, and I'm sure the ongoing litigation with the developers of Descent due to something like a decade of unpaid royalties didn't help the mood.
