Indie FPS Insurgency: Sandstorm Gets A Teaser Trailer

The new trailer ignites the hype train for what should be welcome new blood to the console first-person shooter genre.

The Insurgency series first saw life as a Source mod called Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat that was created in 2007. A full-development sequel called Insurgency was released in 2014 and has garnered a solid following, but dev team New World Interactive is hoping to expand the scope of the franchise with Insurgency: Sandstorm. The first two titles were PC exclusives, but Sandstorm brings the series to PS4 and Xbox One.

The release date hasn't been revealed yet, but Insurgency: Sandstorm should be arriving sometime in 2018. It has a significant uphill battle against console mainstays like Battlefield and Call of Duty, but is bringing some fresh improvements to the formula. For example, Insurgency: Sandstorm will have enhanced reload mechanics with a level of realism that isn't strange to PC-only shooters but is absent from popular console games. Hopefully, the game won't introduce a level of complexity that turns casual console players off. Check out the new teaser trailer below and look out for release date information soon.

I am curious to see if this takes off at all.

I always liked the Insurgency weapon handling on PC, but the engine is very dated now and they never did get another quality game mode. Push and their Tug of War mode were the best in the mod, but Push is really the only thing left.

The Co-Op is really fun still. Should be interesting to see if it gets traction in this tough shooters market.
