New Japan Pro Wrestling Invades Fire Pro Wrestling World This Summer
The Fire Pro Wrestling franchise is about to receive licensed characters for the first time in its history.
Did anybody else stay up all night to watch New Japan Pro Wrestling's biggest event of the year? Wrestle Kingdom 12 took place in the wee hours of the morning for U.S. denizens and the annual Tokyo Dome show did not disappoint for fans of some of the best non-WWE wrestling in the world. But before Kenny Omega faced off against Chris Jericho, two more forces announced that they would soon collide.
The cult wrestling series Fire Pro Wrestling recently made its return to the western gaming world, with Fire Pro Wrestling World exiting Steam Early Access back in December. On January 2, prior to Wrestle Kingdom 12, developer Spike Chunsoft announced on Twitter that Fire Pro World would soon receive special licensed content from New Japan.
This will mark the first time in the series' history that a Fire Pro game will feature licensed wrestlers, with stars like Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, and the various "gaijin" members of the Bullet Club. But on top of the various real-world characters, a new Story Mode is being added that will follow the actual events of NJPW from 2017 and have them unfold around the player's own story.
Look for New Japan to invade Fire Pro Wrestling World this summer. The game is available now on Steam, but a PlayStation 4 version is also expected around that same time.
