Destiny 2 Servers Are Down For Update 1.1.1.1
A few new items are making their way into Destiny 2 with more to come soon.
Despite the recent controversies surrounding Destiny 2, players still flock to Bungie’s latest looter-shooter in droves, but they will stumble today as the servers go down for the scheduled maintenance. This maintenance comes one week after the launch of Curse of Osiris, Destiny 2’s first piece of DLC, and seeks to add a few new mechanics while also swinging the nerf hammer at some grotesquely overpowered weaponry.
As part of the December 12 Update, Destiny 2 will be down while Bungie flips the switch and upgrades the game with Update 1.1.1.1. The maintenance window is set to begin at 7:00 AM PST and conclude at 2:00 PM PST – a whole seven hours of downtime, right in the middle of the day.
If you happen to be playing when the 7:00 AM mark rolls around, you won’t immediately be kicked, in fact, Bungie will let you continue playing until 8:00 AM, at which point you’ll be returned to the log in screen. Once the maintenance period has elapsed, players will be able to log in once more and download Update 1.1.1.1.
While the Patch Notes aren’t currently available, Bungie has given us a little insight into the new mechanics being introduced: certain Legendary weapons will be able to drop as Masterworks, an improved version that includes random and re-rollable stats and Orb of Light generation; Zavala and Shaxx will offer Gift consumables, rewarding everyone in a match a prize at its conclusion; Xur will bring a few more items on the weekend; and Prometheus Lens will be nerfed.
These are the first of a series of planned improvements coming to Destiny 2, with another bout of yet-to-be-announced changes coming at the start of 2018. However, Bungie has at least confirmed Prometheus Lens will receive a “proper, play-test design pass” – makes you wonder how it made it into the game in the first place.

Those "controversies" were addressed by Bungie yesterday. Did someone forget to check Kotaku or Polygon yesterday afternoon to write a me too story?
