Sign Up For Shacknews Game Jam 2017

There's a little over a week before the Game Jam goes live and we've got the details for you.

The Shacknews Game Jam is going down November 2 to November 5 and we've got all the details for you here. The Game Jam will be hosted by Itch.io and will be a showcase of creativity with a couple prizes to inspire the best work.

As so put by romsteady in the official post, the goal of the jam is to highlight the creativity of budding and experienced game developers who frequent the Shacknews Chatty, as well as grow the Shacknews community. The games will be rated on Fun, Visuals, Audio, and Use of Theme, with Theme to be revealed on November 2. We'll share the Theme on the website, Twitter account, and Itch.io page.

Games that win for each category will earn a $50 gift card and the one with the highest average rating across all criteria will be rewarded with a $100 gift card. Ties will be broken based on votes and then by ratings for Use of Theme, Fun, Visuals, and Audio in that order. Additional information including rules on licensed music, working with a team, and more can be found in the FAQ on the jam's official page.

We're excited to see what gets put together by our Chatty community and hope that more will be inspired to join the best community in gaming. Get the conversation going in the itch.io forum, Chatty, and, if you use Twitter, use the hashtag #ShacknewsJam for engagement.

As of this morning, we've got 17 teams signed up, although not that many are on the team builder.

One weekend? Well that sucks. I’m going to be in NYC that weekend.

Why not make it a month long thing instead of a weekend? Then you can milk it for a month with status updates, etc?

          ... it's not like it's an on-site game jam.

I dunno, ask the guy who organized it!

Ironically, the longer the jam period, the lower the turnout/submissions. For whatever reason, 48-72 hours seems to be a local optima.

Yeah I get it, but being Married ... With Chidren, I doubt I'd ever be able to dedicate an entire weekend to anything like that unless I left town. We need to do ShackGameJamCon.
