Final Fantasy IX Is Available On PS4 Right Now

Square Enix surprised everyone at Tokyo Game Show with the announcement and immediate launch of the PS4 port of Final Fantasy IX.

It's been over 15 years since Square Enix launched Final Fantasy VI thru IX, considered the arguably best titles in the long-running series. While VI, VII, and VIII delivered a gradually more modern twist on fantasy elements, IX returned to a more traditional fantasy style and design and it resulted in one of the most charming and heartwarming (and breaking) entries thus far. Now, those that have never experienced this RPG treasure and those that simply want to return to the world can do so now with a surprise launch of Final Fantasy IX on PS4. Oh...and it's available right now.

Tokyo Game Show is underway and, while there are certainly intriguing new titles abound, elements of the experience have been reserved for nostalgia. Konami revealed that they're rebuilding the cult classic Zone of the Enders from the ground up with added VR integration and Final Fantasy IX's announcement and subsequent launch means a new generation of players will have an opportunity to play fan favorites of old. 

The Final Fantasy IX Digital Edition comes with an original custom theme and eight character avatars created by Toshiyuki Itahana, who collaborated with Hideo Minaba to design the characters for IX. It's available right now on the PlayStation Store at a discounted price of $16.79 (original price is $20.99).
