Gamers doing good for charity is important to help get us past a mainstream perception of being self-centered maladroits stuck in their mom's basement. So the new Quest for the Cause Twitch stream charity drive beginning today is worthy of attention, and your donations.

Quest for the Cause, spearheaded by streamer Daniel "iKasperr" Bong and friends, will be trying to raise $100,000 for 10 different charities over the next 10 days. The event will boast 55 broadcasters, five musicians and hundreds of content creators during the Twitch livestream. It will kick off at noon PT / 3 p.m. ET, with the full work-in-progress schedule showing the stream will end at midnight PT / 3 a.m. ET on August 14.

This will be the sixth year for Quest for the Cause. It was started in 2012 as a tribute to one of Bong's friends, who died of cancer at a young age. He has also overcome the disease himself. In the past, it has raised funds for the such charities as the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The full list of charities has yet to be revealed on the official site, but given the drive's history, they should all be worthy causes. So pull off your headset, get out your credit card and donate once the event gets under way. You'll get a warm fuzzy feeling for your good deed.
