E3 2017: The Original 'Duke' Xbox Controller Is Coming Back

Peripheral maker Hyperkin is recreating the original controller for all the variations of Xbox One

Remember the Duke? Not John Wayne, but the gaming version for the Xbox. It was bulky, durable and fit quite nicely in large hands. Unfortunately, Xbox 360 and beyond went to a slimmer controller and all the Xbox Ones have continued the trend. But peripheral maker Hyperkin remembers, and is recreating the Duke for all Xbox Ones.

Hyperkin is working with Xbox on the controller, which will also work on Windows 10 PCs. The company's Research and Development team even "sought the assistance and the blessing" of one of the key members of the original Xbox team, Seamus Blackley. While the look and feel is the same, it does have some upgrades, including a logo display screen, left and right bumpers, and a nine-foot detachable cable.

The Duke will be coming this holiday season, likely in time for the Xbox One X launch on November 7.

I sold my two on eBay pretty quickly. The size wasn't the problem so much as the fucking terrible dpad.

I wasn't a fan of the lenticular buttons. Other than that, is was a pretty good controller.

A'ight. I didn't hate the Duke, and still have one that I occasionally use with my OG Xbox. But the One's controller is superior in every way.
