Apple took the wraps off of its next Mac OS at today's WWDC keynote, titled "High Sierra." It includes a new file system, as well as big updates to many of the most popular Mac OS apps. 

Tim Cook introduced the Mac OS update by calling it the "heart and soul" of Apple. One of its most notable new features was the switch from the old HFS file system to APFS, complete with a stage demonstration on how much faster the revised system can copy over a large batch of files.

The new Safari is said to be 80% faster than Chrome in tests, and features a few new user-friendly features: auto-play blocking, and intelligent tracking prevention to protect user privacy. Mail will use Spotlight to enhance searches, and let you split the compose window in full-screen view. Finally, Photos allows for new Filter and View options, improvements to facial recognition, and more editing tools. Plus, those tools will be compatible with the Photoshop clipboard.

Mac OS also showed off Metal 2, an upgraded version of its developer toolkit.
