Shack's Arcade Corner: After Burner II
Greg Burke is about to break the sound barrier on this week's episode.
This week on Shack's Arcade Corner, we look back at After Burner II, the classic flight combat game. The arcade cabinet featured a two button flight stick with throttle and was produced and developed by SEGA. Players took control of a F14 as they fought their way through the game. There was a special arcade cabinet designed to immerse players even more with an enclosed seat and servo movement. The game was featured in the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day and even got a shoutout in Bayonetta. After Burner II was also ported to countless consoles, but nothing really ever captured the fun of playing it in the arcade. Take a look at this video to find out more!

I was lucky enough to have a couple arcades that had the sit down version... but I hated that you could put in enough quarters to play the game but not enough to have the servos move. You would pop in quarters and it would say START, so I would.... but then be frustrated saying 'its not working'. Guess it was cool that you could still play the game but definitely took a lot of the fun out of it.
