SteamVR Home Gets More Customization, Social Features, Workshop Update
The new update for the beta brings many things that users have been seeking, or creating themselves.
SteamVR launched last year and Valve has continually been looking for ways to upgrade the experience for users. A new update upgrades the Home experience, adding more customization and detail options to make it feel more like ... well, home.
"We've been steadily adding ways to customize the launch area (where players start when starting up SteamVR)," Valve said in a blog post detailing the update. "It's been exciting to see the creativity of the community in the diverse environments and backgrounds submitted to the SteamVR Workshop so far. We've also heard loud and clear that creators want the ability to make more detailed home environments, with sound, animation, interaction, and social elements. All of these features and more are now available."
Among the things added:
- Customizable environments
- Social features
- Avatar customization
- Quick links to most used features
- SteamVR Workshop updates
Much of the core functionality comes from Valve's Destinations VR tools application.
SteamVR Home is still in beta, and if you don't have access, you can opt in by finding SteamVR in your Steam Library under Tools, right clicking and going to properties, then selecting the Betas tab. Pick SteamVR Beta from the dropdown and you will be good to go.
