10 tagsGreetings Shackers,
I have been gone for awhile, and there has been some of speculation about the nature of my absence. To be honest, I have been traveling a lot and keeping myself busy moving into a new home. I also have three upcoming events with Army of Techno, so I have been spending quite a bit of time preparing for those. I have still been responding to Shack messages, occasionally using the [LOL] script, and I have been working behind the scenes with our team on some great things for this fall and the future. Shacknews is now growing our year over year monthly unique visitors for the first time in 5 years. We had a great E3, and actually gained even more visitors in July over June 2015. This momentum carries on into August, but I don't want to bore you with the Front Page any longer.
Today I would like to announce something, and it is not that I am selling Shacknews.
MERCURY BETA
Mercury is a $5/month subscription service for an advertisement free Shacknews experience. Mercury is still in beta and will evolve over time. We plan to listen to continue to listen to community feedback on how to make Mercury better.
I want to thank everyone who has put up with our ads over the last 2 years. We needed them to keep us afloat. Mercury Beta will be another great way for Shack to stay alive and kicking for years to come. Thank you for making this community awesome, and I look forward to hearing back from you as we relaunch Mercury.
2 lines of code, 2 years.

10 tagsLogitech G930 & Windows 10
If you upgraded to Windows 10, your headset probably keeps turning off every 15 minutes. There's a temporary fix until proper drivers come out. Go to the LGS install path (ex. C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\Resources\G930\Manifest\ ) and open Device_Manifest.xml. Find <battery turnOffInterval="900" and change it to a higher number like 9600.
Hope it helps somebody else, it's been perplexing me since I installed Win10.

10 tagsHow the Shack can help Jingletard
The TLDR version is that I've taken over Jingletard's case as his attorney and am working to get him a better deal than 3 years in prison.
The Shack can help by donating to a fund to help him fines and costs they owe. The failure to pay this is part of the reason why he is looking at 3 years. The State is also looking to revoke his wife’s probation due only to her failure to pay her share of these fines. This is a development of the last few days and ill be taking that case over too.
So I set up an Indiegogo - http://igg.me/at/ZNsdKf-SnzU. Please donate so I can have more ammo to keep them out of prison.

10 tagsokay, GC. Here take go :)
I just copy/pasted it right from the shackmessage. I imagine that one thing which makes getting divorced really tricky is that your social circles & emotional support networks often intersect/overlap heavily, so I came at it from the perspective of him having to build a social network completely from scratch.....
Jesus. That's overwhelming. Lol
All in all great ideas though. Thanks. :)

My favorite approach is to make projects and then use the project as a way to branch out and make friends.
For example, you have your own place now. You could pick up home brewing. Go to brew shops and chat up people there for information and at the same time be sociable. You get advice for how to proceed on your hobby, and you already have stuff in common with the people you're talking to. Plus, beer and brewing in general is a very social thing. So you go to events, and you invite people over to try the stuff you've been making (as thanks for them giving you advice!). Stay on chatty terms with the guys who run the supply shop and learn the names of the locals. Pay attention to when meetings or club gatherings happen and make sure to attend.
You can do the same thing with mountain climbing, or biking, or surfing, or whatever it is you prefer.
Those meet-up websites are really popular too. You can check those out. And get a copy of your city magazine so that you know about any cultural events that are happening. Even if you go to them solo, you make sure to strike up a convo with at least 3 strangers while you're there. Even if you don't wind up close to these people, you'll get some good conversations out of it.
What you *cant* do is shrink into your shell. Well, maybe reserve one or two nights a week for something like that. They can be your gaming nights. But every other day you should have something scheduled, even if it's only "this is what I'm gonna do today" rather than a hard-scheduled event. Seriously, I would make a list of random shit you might be into, then pull out a calendar and write 2 things per day.
Take cooking classes.
You've got a new apartment? Look up woodworking groups. Local colleges are good for this kind of thing.
Look up local hiking or camping groups and get into it, even if that's not your kind of thing. You're not doing it for the activity so much as using it to force an expansion of your social group.
And, when you feel ready, join one of those dating websites and meet people just to practice dating... By then you'll at least have some stuff to talk about when they ask what you've done since your breakup.
Oh yeah, and become a total asshole about keeping your place tidy and clean. Nothing is more demoralizing than feeling like the sad sack whose living conditions have fallen apart since a breakup. Be absolutely ruthless with yourself. Your new home should be your haven.
....all just IMO, of course :)

Hey thanks! Id say lets go for a beer but... Lol.
So how do you deal with the single life? My hardest part is I don't know anyone besides couple friends and I really don't want that drama right now.

Just wanted you to know that I'm here if you need to vent or ask advice for single life or just chat about whatever :)
It'll be pretty fun to set up your own apartment just the way you want it and make it yours. Looks like you're off to a good start on that. -
