A fascinating Nintendo Labo developer interview has gone up. It goes over a lot of the trial and error, focus testing, and iteration it took for them to get where they ended up: https://labo.nintendo.com/developer-interview/

Also interesting is that Tsubasa Sakaguchi, the co-director of Splatoon, was the director for Labo. He starts off talking about the challenge of finding something innovative to do with the joycons. Split controllers and in-the-box sharing were not innovative enough features for him to build a completely new product on because they'd already been done with Wii and Famicom. He finally figured out that exploiting the differential between the sensors in the controllers were where he'd find something innovative.

    Really good read.

    Book suggestions

I've been on a bit of a sci-fi space opera kick lately and looking for any suggestions.

    Recently read:

Commonwealth series (and related series). Highly enjoyed it. Definitely some issues with being too wordy without needing to be. Found myself skipping some pages at the start of some chapters when the author would go on and on describing a planet that felt like it had no purpose. This felt like more of a problem in the first book. Still would suggest it.

Frontline series. Pretty good but the most recent book felt like it did nothing to advance the plot. Still looking forward to it's continuation.

Bobiverse series. Not space opera but definitely a fun read. Kind of closer to what I would daydream about. Any new books would be an instant buy.

Expeditionary force series. Luke warm about this series. It's a bit too repetitive in it's problem solving. Interesting when it moves it's perspective around to the wider universe and I hope it does this more in upcoming books to give us a better look at the series universe. I'm still looking forward to continue it but it needs to branch out a bit from it's current formula.

Should I look at the expanse series? I haven't watched any of the series.

I did this except with a curry I had sitting around. I also upped the broth to a full cup. After the chicken was removed I added some chili powder and a little salt and pepper.

I thought I had green onions that was a lie :(

    Aliens: The Ride

Somehow, some wonderful human being used Planet Coaster to create a rollercoaster that tells story of the film Aliens. It's fantastic.
