I think after playing some doom,quake and duke3d I have a potentially inflammatory statement t o make:

Duke3d kinda sucks, sorry crustar. I had bought the shareware back in the day but went full Quake shortly after and never looked back other than maybe playing a level here and there.
Duke starts out strong but clearly is downhill after that stellar first level. I loved the interactive elements and that starting level still holds up and I have fond memories of the casual mp matches with my buddy when we were kids but the rest is kinda meh.

It really doesn’t hold up as well and doom or quake in terms of mechanics or atmosphere. There are some amazingly clever things in terms of guns and locations etc but the shooting isnt all that great and the good element kinda have lost their appeal because they are not something out of the ordinary any more. Doom never was clever but the maps were fucking solid as was/is the gunplay/mechanics. Same with quake.

perhaps a more detailed explanation of why you feel betrayed would be in order?
