Can we talk about scifi books? I always enjoy those threads. I really need something new to read that's light and fun. I'm kind of down in the dumps and don't feel like reading the hard scifi I usually read. I really enjoyed the whole Bobiverse series if anyone can think of some books in that similar style?

    Some info:

If you didn’t know,, I’ve been studying, writing about and teaching Taoist philosophy and qigong (internal yoga) for over 25 years with my teacher, who grew up from childhood in the White Cloud Monastery in Beijing, and is the 17th generation lineage holder of the Dragon Gate Sect of Quanzhen Dao (Complete Reality Taoism), as well as a physician with a PhD in neurophysiology.

Usually he only teaches publicly once or twice a year on a small, local scale but due to the ongoing pandemic and the toll that it’s taken, he’s decided to go wide and hold a Zoom seminar.

He will be presenting the full set of qigong exercises originated by Qiu Quji, the founder of Dragon Gate Sect and the White Cloud Monastery, which was endowed to him by Genghis Khan for his service as his adviser. This is an 800 year old technique that is practiced ceremonially by the monks and has never been made public before. Even I don’t know the full extent of what he is going to teach and I’m supposed to assist with the class!!

It’s a series of visualizations, eye/hand/brain coordination exercises and full-body breathing techniques designed to tap into the potential of our instinctual physical survival abilities and elevate them to the level of group consciousness; what the monks use for longevity and life extension personally and to bestow good wishes upon humanity in their ritual function as priests.

This is the only time my teacher is going to present this in public and I personally feel that the more people learn it firsthand, the more it will stay alive, instead of being lost to time. That’s why I’m involved with this stuff in the first place. These are fundamental tools for the body/mind connection and there isn’t any room left for secrecy. People need as many tools as they can get their hands on.

Anyhow, if this sounds interesting, SM me and I’ll send you the info on the class, which is taking place Sunday August 1st from 11am-6pm. I’m happy to answer questions and help you practice or refresh your notes afterwards, too.

Tinnitus mens... Have you tried notched sound therapy? In reply...

I remember a thread not too long ago about tinnitus and pretty much everyone was saying all hope is lost... just learn to live with it. I’ve had a few episodes of tinnitus but recently it became permanent. It isn’t that severe but becomes very noticeable in quite environments such as waking up or going to sleep. All this is to say, I feel like I am on the more fortunate end of the spectrum to start with. But some googling led me to this:

    https://www.uwo.ca/fhs/csd/ebp/reviews/2011-12/Bennett.pdf

There is an ios app/website that sells customizable audio for this called “audionotch”. I used the white noise version as it is the most effective for high frequency tinnitus. An FYI the “tuner” doesn’t work in their app on ios or in ios safari, it will always play the same tone. It does work on ios with the chrome browser.

I’ve been using this for 2 weeks and have noticed a very significant difference. A few nights I haven’t heard it at all. Given my own experience and the above studies I’m surprised this isn’t a more widely used treatment. I strongly believe my results were not a coincidence as the first change I noticed was that there were times that I started to perceive the tinnitus as high pitched white noise rather than a pure tone... which is in itself an improvement.

Also, their faq claims you should stop if using the therapy makes your tinnitus worse. I think this may be a bit misleading however because when I was doing the treatment it would really get my tinnitus going and it would be a bit more noticeable for a while after stopping as well. After 2 weeks this effect has greatly reduced. I think the chances of short term exposure making a permanent change either way is very unlikely anyway.

    So... hope this helps someone.
