Broad overview: there were isolated cases of fraudulent birth certificates issued for border births over the past 40 years, so now *any* citizen who was born to a midwife / home birth is being denied a passport.
The burden of proof is ridiculously high (they are told to provide detailed medical records, etc), essentially these people are being told they're no longer American citizens. Conveniently, they're all people of color.
Let's repeat the main issue: The Trump admin is directing DHS, ICE, and CBP to deny the citizenship of tens of thousands of Americans born along the border over the past four decades.
The upcoming elections are more critical than ever.
