Uplink/Hacking Simulation Menz

So I discovered this Uplink-inspired, free to play, online, hacking-sim game last night, Codelink V2:

Played for a bit last night and it totally hit my Uplink nostalgia. It's like if Uplink was made in this year. The online component is huge, and you can even PvP in it and hack other players. Really customizable GUI, Dual Monitor support and a built-in mp3 player for playing your own music.

So I say we get a bunch of shackers playing and try to take over some gateways! A bit of a warning, don't fuck with the dual-monitor window offset variable as it can seriously break your GUI and if you choose to have the game save your GUI position it will be permanently fucked until they reset it server side. I've brought this issue to their attention and they're working on a fix as we speak.

My thread about my roommate's complete lack of cooking knowledge (http://www.shacknews.com/chatty?id=28853560#item_28853560 ) got me wondering, what are your favorite dishes to cook?

Bonus points for posting the recipe!

Here's mine: Greek roast chicken.

*4 chicken thighs
*1 large potato per person , peeled and quartered
*juice from two lemons
*sea salt and black pepper
*6 to 8 cloves of garlic, peeled
* at least 2 tlbs of oregano
*1/4 cup olive oil
*1 1/4 cups water

Preheat oven to 425F

Season the chicken & potatoes with salt and pepper and place in a cast iron skillet. Pour the olive oil and lemon juice over the whole shebang and scatter the garlic cloves throughout the pan. I cook it skin side up the whole time, but you can also start skin side down and then flip it halfway through cooking.

Pour the water in on the sides of the skillet, but make sure not to get any on the chicken.

Roast it all for 20-30 minutes and then flip the chicken skin side up and roast for another half an hour.

Not only is it really, really tasty, but it's easy to make and really cheap. Chicken thighs are almost always on sale, so the per-plate cost works out to only $1-$2.

I was just thinking about possibly playing Mass Effect and actually saw the link to this story on Steam. The mod works for both ME1 and ME2. Interesting!

Battlefield Video Settings

So I built two systems over the weekend for friends. One with an i3 2100 and one with an i5 2400. Both with 550ti's. I had originally put the 550ti in with my 2500k@4.0ghz to test and it ran 45-60fps on medium@1680x1050. Looks good still. After putting it in the other systems I realized there's 4 items that will be a 5-10 frame difference for each one. For budget gaming this will help your system if your setting around 30-40 and can't figure out what's wrong.

Mesh Quality: This gave a huge 10 frame hit, putting it on low makes a huge difference

Ambient Occlusion: Off, this is another 10+ frame hit

Antialiasing Deferred: This I turned off in both systems to stop the occasional high 30s drop.

Antialiasing Post: This was placed on low and now the FPS will never drop below 45-46

After all these settings I went back to my system with a 560ti, put everything on ultra, mesh quality on med, ambient occlusion on SSAO, the game looks insanely better at some times than it did on auto high and the lowest I've seem the FPS drop is 58.

To see your FPS in game, hit the tilde ~ key to bring up the console, type render.drawfps 1
